FULLERTON. Mamma mia! Had P.T. Barnum been Italian, this is the type of restaurant he would have created. From the Piazza Fantasia with Christmas lights to the flying Gelardis (high-wire dummies), there's entertainment for everyone. Nevertheless, fun doesn't overwhelm the food. From pizzas with gourmet toppings to hand-stuffed ravioli, calamari, and vegetarian dishes, this Italian fun house promises delicious food and guarantees a great time!

NEWPORT BEACH. Sleek, elegant Bluefin is a minimalist's dream, composed of straight lines, intersecting planes, and the contrast of dark and light. The interior is a lovely complement to the clean, unadulterated flavors of chef Takashi Abe's fare. Beautifully composed and perfectly prepared, each dish is a revelation of flavor and culinary consideration. Start with steamed abalone or sashimi soup, and then enjoy grilled salmon, seafood tempura, or a range of sushi offerings. The latter are invariably fresh and make for delectable dining, as does the lunchtime omakase, a multi-course, chef-created meal.

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO. With its location near the railroad tracks, Ramos House Cafe showcases a style and charm that make it one of Orange County's most unique restaurants. Built in the 1880s, the board-and-batten home provides a cozy setting for delicious comfort food, whether you crave something with a hint of Creole spice or an omelet stuffed with locally-grown veggies and flavored with herbs grown in the Ramos's own garden. A great experience for folks discovering the Los Rios district. Patio dining is available.

BREA. With this attractive restaurant's proximity to Brea Mall, it's not surprising that it makes a popular lunch destination for shoppers. In late afternoon, the patio is often packed with young professionals taking in the balmy weather and enjoying a Peroni or Tuscan wine. Specialty entrees include scaloppini gorgonzola on garlic mashed potatoes, grilled rosemary-and-garlic chicken, and black pepper-crusted tuna with fresh tomato-basil salsa.

Tulsa Rib Co. specializes in chicken, shrimp, and rib comfort foods and has done so for longer than most of its OC competitors. Its cozy, casual scene is conducive to finger-licking and eating till you've had your fill, and the staff can be trusted to make newcomers feel like long-time regulars. Hearty house specialties include tender country pork ribs, country-fried steak, and famous Tulsa potatoes – people have been known to drive an hour to sample them.

OLD TOWNE ORANGE. A charming pink Victorian house surrounded by a white picket fence – not necessarily the type of place you'd expect in Southern California, right? This early 20th-century mansion has been converted into a favorite afternoon destination of well-to-do folks. Enjoy high tea as in London – a pot of Lady Barbara or Countess Anne tea served with scones, homemade soup, tea sandwiches, chocolate candies, and delicious desserts displayed on a three-tiered platter.

ANAHEIM HILLS. The "two-step" takes on new meaning with Wood Ranch's barbecuing process! Slow-cooked overnight and grilled when ordered, ribs and barbecue come out luscious and mouthwatering. Celebrity sightings are not uncommon, but locals often line up for tri-tip roasts and beef or baby back pork ribs. Prices are for a complete meal, so be sure and sample the Ranch fries and original peanut coleslaw too. You'll likely experience a wait, but that only means you can savor the aromas longer!

ANAHEIM. For the best rotisserie chicken and shawarma on the run, Zankou Chicken can't be beat! With a huge delivery and take-out business, this place hops! Although you can dine in the eatery, most folks take their food and eat elsewhere. The bakery has sinfully delicious goodies – be sure to get an extra baklava to munch in the car. Fast, tasty food that's inexpensive is the name of the game.

TUSTIN. For fine Mediterranean cuisine, Orange County residents know that this Tustin eatery always has something delicious in store. A casual, relaxing mood is promoted by contemporary architecture, exotic plant and flower arrangements, and muted shades of yellow, red, and grey. Featured entrees include lamb shishlik with jasmin rice pilaf, Moroccan salmon with saffron couscous, and cavatappi pasta with grilled eggplant, zucchini, and fontina cheese.
