I went to Amazing Exotics over the weekend. It was great! They are a non-profit agency (yes, it's tax deductible) who rescues animals. I think the staff is completely volunteer & even trains the animals. They walk some of the animals (the tigers and big cats) on leashes (like dogs) in the evenings & let them run free in the fenced 40 acres. They run 3 tours/week and limit tours to maximum of 10 people/tour. Anyways, I played with monkeys for about 20 minutes in an inside room & petted a spotted leopard & a lynx. Very educational - the tour guide actually raises the baby monkeys in his home - he's very knowledgeable! I highly recommend it! I know it sounds a bit 'redneck' but it was completely not so - I did not feel unsafe at anytime during the tour. It is 100x better than any zoo. Note: kids are not allowed to do the additional tour of petting the large cats. Website: Visit the Amazing Exotics website » |
