DOWNTOWN. Lumber baron Edgar Sawyer's 1908 Tudor Revival home, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, now houses Oshkosh's public museum. Interiors of the four-story building were designed by Tiffany Studios and include spectacular stained-glass windows. Another key feature is the apostles clock, built in 1895 – each hour when the clock chimes, carved figures of the apostles circle a Christ figure. An impressive array of folk art, ceramics and hand-blown glass are also displayed. Other exhibits chronicle the arrival locally of Eastern European immigrants, the importance of logging to Oshkosh and Winnebago County, and the Sawyer family's history. The museum shop sells everything from books and games to jewelry and reproduction accessories.
