NORTH OF DOWNTOWN. Fratello's is a happy hour favorite, especially since revelers can motor their boats right up to the deck and tie off. Gorgeous sunsets over the Fox River are another perk, and the colorful nightly marvels are best enjoyed with a Trolleycar stout, Fox Tail amber or Winnebago wheat. Four-ounce sampler beers conveniently allow you to try a particular brew before committing to a 10-ounce or 16-ounce glass. Teetotalers will want to try Fox River's homemade root beer or cream soda. DOWNTOWN. Oshkosh might not have a Mardi Gras celebration, but it does have the French Quarter. This crowded college bar is best known for the beads given out when patrons do shots. Drink prices are reasonable, and live music is a frequent addition, making the place perennially popular. If you need a few minutes away from the crush of the crowd, score a coveted spot at a pool table. Smart-casual to trendy attire.

DOWNTOWN. Kelly's is popular with University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh crowds for two reasons. First, Kelly's has great daily happy hour specials that feature items like $1 draft beers and $2 well drinks. Second, when you do a shot, you get a rubber ducky on a string to wear around your neck! If ducks aren't your thing, you can also choose to play pool, foosball or darts. On game days, Packers fans crush into Kelly's to cheer on their favorite team. Casual attire.

DOWNTOWN. Mabel Murphy's Oshkosh location – there's also a Mabel's in Scottsdale, Arizona – bills itself as the home of Packers football in Oshkosh. The place is a nice alternative to downtown's rowdier college bars, and in addition to University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh students, plenty of young professionals drop in for a drink after work. Happy hour specials are well-received. Casual to smart-casual attire.

DOWNTOWN. This coffeehouse opens each morning at 7am to let workers and students get their bagel and java fix. Throughout the day, it also serves quiche, personal pizzas, gourmet sandwiches and homemade soups. Comfy couches and the usual tables provide seating options for chatting with friends or working on your laptop. Things really get rocking in the evening when New Moon serves Wisconsin beers and wines along with a huge array of coffee drinks. Live entertainment, available most nights, includes poetry slams and folk singing. A great, non-smoking option to the bar scene. Smart-casual attire.
