Carfax Tower, intricately tied to Oxford's history, is all that remains of Carfax Church. William Shakespeare saw his godson christened in the church's now demolished chapel, and at the height of Oxford's infamous "town versus gown" strife, angry townspeople stood in the tower and tossed stones at students who walked past. Today, visitors can climb the steps of the 72-foot tower and take in spectacular views of the Oxford skyline.   (© 10Best)
