Oxford's Bodleian Library surrounds the Quad and was built in the Jacobean Gothic style between 1610 and 1624 to provide lecture rooms for the original university faculties. Inside the Quad, visitors are treated to the intricate east range gateway, whose five tiers represent the five orders of classical architecture. You can also see a bronze statue of the Third Earl of Pembroke, who was a library benefactor and dedicatee of William Shakespeare's first folio.
