WEST PALM BEACH. Large, bustling and active, this establishment is a popular gathering place. Tiered seating is defined by curved partitions, and the rear glass wall of the huge bar provides glimpses of an enormous wine selection. Dark and seductive, City Cellar features a menu that concentrates on grilled seafood and meats. You'll also find pastas, salads, daily specials, and a grill menu that offers cheaper alternatives. Mussels, steamed with chardonnay and shallots, are sublime, and the wood-oven baked pizzas are crisp and smoky. The balcony dining area provides a great view of the courtyard, and the restaurant's outdoor bar draws a constant crowd of singles.

WEST PALM BEACH. Traditional Irish pub decor, complete with dark woods, memorabilia, and splashes of kelly green, impart a comfortable familiarity to this laid-back place. Transplants from the Emerald Isle add a note of authenticity. The menu entertains both purists and tourists, serving everything from lamb stew and shepherd's pie to grilled chicken and penne in vodka cream sauce. In the evenings, patrons come to soak in the ambience and shoot a round of pool or two. Two bars serve Guinness on draft and plenty of other beverages. Live music (Irish and otherwise) comes around Wed-Sat, and outdoor seating lets you contemplate the stars while you nurse your pint.

Lime green timbers and pink shutters adorn the exterior of this famous restaurant and watering hole. Tables, shaded by green awnings, line the dock, and there's also a covered, outdoor Chickee Hut Bar, where the rock and reggae bands frequently perform. If dinner's on the agenda, crowdpleasers like peel'n'eat shrimp, crab cakes, margarita pizza and hand-cut sirloin should satiate your cravings.

WEST PALM BEACH. Although the light-wrapped palms outside may lead you to think otherwise, authenticity reigns at this classic pub. Even the bartenders, with their enchanting accents, are genuine. If you're in the mood for a quick bite, salads and sandwiches are great options, and fish and chips always satisfy. If you need something more filling, corned beef and cabbage is a traditional favorite, along with shepherd's pie. Guinness and Bass make a great complement, and an array of other drinks will wet your whistle too. Live weekend music, drink specials, and seasonal pub quizzes only add to the appeal.

WEST PALM BEACH. For more than ten years now – even before Clematis Street got its new lease on life – Respectable has been a mainstay in the area. The combination dance club / live music venue is a haven for the alternative crowd and those looking for something a bit out of the ordinary. Most nights, DJs play a variety of electronic and industrial music for patrons to jam to on the dance floor. At other times, you'll find performances by local and national bands who have a unique sound and are more hardcore than typical music fans appreciate. Along with good drink specials, other attractions include ska, punk, and rock performers, plus whatever's uncategorizable and intriguing.

LAKE WORTH. This throwback to past times is just the sort of club that real music lovers dream of. Intimate, comfortable, and dedicated to great tunes, Bamboo Room occupies the second floor of a circa-1923 social club. Its terrific, curving, copper-topped bar, complete with a display of vintage mixing accoutrements, turns out fantastic drinks, many of the recipes culled from Prohibition-era bar manuals. But the music, played in a (yes, it's true) bamboo-paneled room, includes local and national acts who regale patrons with the best in Mississippi- and Chicago-style blues. You'll also find jazz and other soulful genres represented. Upholstered furniture circles the stage, so score a seat here if you can. If not, anywhere is good for acoustics and views. Great jukebox, too.

7. E.R. Bradley's Saloon

WEST PALM BEACH. Once a private gambling establishment in Palm Beach, Bradley's now sits at the base of Clematis Street near the intracoastal waterway. This local favorite is especially popular with business types and Palm Beach families, who come to enjoy the familiarity of the hometown crowd and partake of the great food. In the evenings, once the dinner rush has died down, the night really begins to take hold. DJs spin Top 40 and beach music, and bar-goers head to the floor and dance with abandon. Theme nights add to the revelry, and four bars guarantee that no one goes thirsty. If you're in the mood to drink, socialize, and boogie, stop over any night, and you'll see the camaraderie that develops.

LAKE WORTH. The "space-age" décor – from egg-shaped chairs to playful contrast of sky blue walls against stark white panels and gray flooring – may trigger memories of "Jetsons" episodes. The globally-inspired fare adds an additional modern twist with bites like Cuban cigars (pork and julienne veggie rolls) with fruit salsa, and the Bombay bowl (rice noodles in spicy green curry broth). A fine collection of imported liqueurs make for a cocktail menu extensive enough to suit every taste. Weather permitting, an outdoor garden and patio, lined with ample seating and exotic sculpture, offers an appealing atmosphere.

WEST PALM BEACH. Hip, dim, and fashionable, this CityPlace hotspot is always bustling and attracts a steady crowd of upscale professionals and tourists. Behind the bar, musicians perform on an elevated stage against a grid of blue-lit cubbie holes. On any given evening, you're likely to hear Top 40 tunes, Latin music, '70s disco, or classics by Otis Redding and Marvin Gaye. A small dance floor is available, and patrons actually do dance, in between sips of martinis (natch), tequilas, single-malt scotches, handcrafted bourbons, and wines by the bottle and glass. An outdoor bar serves to those who want to watch foot-traffic and be washed by balmy breezes. Appetizers and desserts are available to supplement the booze, and fashionable attire is expected.

PALM BEACH. For generations, this Worth Avenue hotspot has been a destination of choice, attended by both celebrities and political figures. Marked by a tower of bougainvillea climbing its façade, Ta-boó has an intimate island elegance, thanks to paddle fans, brown treillage, dark wicker furniture, and abstract floral fabrics. During the day, fresh seafood and steaks are perennially popular, as is the bar scene while you wait for a table. On Friday and Saturday, control is turned over to the DJs and things really pick up pace. There's live piano the rest of the week.
