9. Zibibbo

PALO ALTO.   A sister restaurant to the famous Lulu in San Francisco, this Mediterranean eatery has a split personality. There is a casual area with an exhibition kitchen, a more formal room with iron chairs and modern art, and a patio with olive trees and a fountain. Chef Jody Denton's menu changes seasonally but just reading it will make you hungry – Moroccan spiced prawns with spring garlic and lemon, potato and leek ravioli with Gorgonzola cream and pine nuts and fried shallots, and lavender ice cream. Reservations are a must to get a seat at what one poll has deemed "one of the 20 Best Restaurants in America."   (© 10Best)
