6. Papa Din's Bamboo

Surprised to see this listed as it is approaching 20 years since my wife and I treaked through the what the locals called the remains of their jungle to Papa Din's. Can't say what it is like now but I long to return to Penang and would definitely seek out Papa Din. He was quite elderly then and a great character. The restaurant was pretty much his front room and you ate what he cooked for you - very good I recall and better for the whole personal experience - we were the only customers. He showed us a room covered in newspaper reviews from all over the world and it was fascinating stuff. A real touch of personal and genuine Malaysian hospitality.
