METAMORA. As a young attorney, Abraham Lincoln once counted Metamora Courthouse among his stomping grounds. Erected in 1845, the historic courthouse served Woodford County until the 1890s, when the county seat moved to nearby Eureka. The courthouse was then placed under the auspices of the town of Metamora. Fortunately, concerned community leaders successfully petitioned to have the courthouse restored and placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Today, exhibits in the building offer a fascinating glimpse at circuit life prior to the Civil War.
