5. Glen Oak Park and Zoo

PEORIA.   Glen Oak Park is a multipurpose facility that spreads over some 100 partially wooded acres just outside of Peoria proper. Folks flock here to enjoy tennis courts, a fishing pond, playgrounds, and picnic shelters. During winter months, ice-skating is available. A family-favorite destination since the 1930s, the park's seven-acre zoo is home to more than 175 animals from all over the world, including big cats, a fennec fox, and even a Madagascar hissing cockroach.
