10Best's Philadelphia Nightlife
-- Elizabeth Baxley, 10Best Travel Editor
At one time, if you were going to go bar-hopping in Philadelphia, you'd mostly focus your energies on Market Street. And, while it's true that a lot of the city's most well-established nightspots are there, now there are several great reasons to venture out past City Center. Old Town's Swanky Bubbles, Continental and Five Spot, all just a few strides from Independence Square, would have been great places for Franklin and Jefferson to blow off steam in between sessions of the Continental Congress. Further out, spots like Standard Tap, Transit and Penthouse have helped re-energize the Northern Liberties. South Street, meanwhile, continues its reputation as being the city's bohemian heart and soul by offering nighttime crowds topflight clubs like Fluid, chic cocktail lounges and even a dive bar or two.
