You may have to call for directions, but it's an effort you won't regret. New American cuisine is updated with such ingredients as goat cheese, fresh herbs, a knockout wine list, and a delicious Sunday brunch menu. The ambience is intimate, yet refreshingly open. Reservations recommended. Business casual attire.

SOUTH PHILLY. Judging from the ambience, you may expect to see Rocky in here chowing down on a roast pork sandwich. In point of fact, the joint's as good as any when it comes to serving up a cheese steak. And even though Shank's and Evelyn's is a "hole in the wall," this is also where the locals and the city's politicians gather for home cooked breakfasts. Yo! Hows 'bout two over easy with a side of browns?

CENTER CITY. It's not that the folks who regularly patronize this snug Italian bistro didn't want you to discover it for yourself, but after taking one meal at Melograno you'll selfishly agree that this is one of those places you hope never loses it's "off-the-radar" quality. Subtly dressed with wooden tables, hardwood floors, fresh flowers, bare white walls and an open kitchen, Melograno has the look and feel of the little neighborhood eateries found in Europe. And the food, it's safe to say, could give any of those places a run for their money – especially the mashed potato-stuffed ravioli and bistecca alla fiorentina.

This suburban restaurant serves up a menu of delightful foods. Select from the full menu of regional entrees perfect for any taste or appetite. Locals say the short drive from the city is well worth it. Lovely ambience and excellent service abound.

La Collina boasts droves of regulars who love the food, the fuss, and the ambience that would make Sophia Loren nod her approval. Dancing is available on Saturday evenings. Seafood, pastas, and meat dishes are offered, as well as a concise yet varied wine list.

CENTER CITY. The hip yet quaint ambience makes this bistro a winner. The culinary treats, ranging from risotto with parmesan veal to bouillabaisse, offer a wonderful combination of French-Mediterranean tastes. Hidden in the Marketplace Design Center, Bistro St. Tropez's decor and savory delights make it well worth the search.

For a romantic, candlelit dinner, this restaurant offers superb cuisine with an equally impressive wine list. The rustic brick is balanced with luxurious silk carpets, and the service is absolutely impeccable. Serving freshly prepared American-French Continental food with seasonal specials and delicious homemade desserts.

CENTER CITY. Located in the Four Seasons Hotel, the Fountain sits in the middle of one of the most visually stunning settings in the city. Diners may opt for th eprix fixe menu, or choose from the a la carte selections. New American cuisine, with an emphasis on fresh seafood, is served at this refined and elegant establishment. Truly a special occasion destination. Fountain also delivers an oustanding Sunday brunch – one that features roasted monk fish osso bucco and grilled Norwegian salmon paillard. When you make reservations, request a table overlooking the spectacular fountain. Prix fixe dinner $120, with flight of wines $150.

OLD CITY. You know right away that this will be special, from the Zen-like entrance with its wall of flowing waters. Duck and shiitake postickers, lobster fried rice, sesame crusted tuna, make for a memorable meal. After your meal, try the chocolate Bento box for two, a sampler of five unique little desserts. The bar gets packed and stays packed, but don't let the noise deter your mission to enjoy a wonderful meal. Make sure to rub the Buddha statue on your way out. Advance reservations are recommended, especially for weekends.
