About Phoenix Events
To start the year off right, the West Valley Arts Council sponsors a Native American Arts Festival every January. The same month is the Fiesta Bowl, which moved to Glendale's Cardinal's Stadium in 2007. March is set aside for WorldFEST, a celebration of Phoeneix's ten sister cities, followed in April by Pride Weekend. One of the performing arts year's most anticipated events is the Phoenix Theatre's New Works Festival in July it's the perfect opportunity to catch some innovative new works from up-and-coming playwrights. As fall settles in, outdoor festivities gain in popularity. October hosts three major events in a row: Old World Oktoberfest (a celebration of traditional German culture) at Margaret T. Hance Park, the Arizona State Fair, and the Rainbows Festival (the state's biggest GLBT event) in Heritage Park. Special Christmas events are extremely popular here, as well. Heritage Square features the city's huge Christmas tree and the surrounding area is decked out for Fiesta of Light. Historic downtown Glendale hosts Glendale Glitters for the entire month of December. And Papago Park's Phoenix Zoo and Desert Botanical Gardens schedule impressive holiday light displays of their own. -- Kim Goodin, 10Best Editor
