Since it opened, folks have been clamoring to this hopping restaurant in Phoenix for its inventive cuisine. Abandoned are bland burritos and tacos in favor of lush, richly layered flavors achieved with zesty chiles, authentic cheeses, and complex moles. At Barrio Cafe in Phoenix, start with guacamole prepared tableside and then consider cochinita pibil, a delectable slow-roasted pork dish. Was on a business trip and drove from Mesa to Phoenix to eat at Barrio Cafe based on the reviews on the web. Got there at 6:30 on a Thursday night and had a 45 minute wait (good sign that the food must be good). Had a salad and the roast pork. Both were excellent and had unique flavors. Great atmosphere, music and service.
