This historic site bears the distinction of housing America's first grist mill and dates back to 1636. The current mill has been rebuilt on the original site, and visitors are greeted by the sight of a large water wheel turning just as it did during the days of the area's original settlers. If you visit during the spring, primarily April and May, you can view the fish ladder that enables thousands of herring to swim upstream for spawning purposes. Historic walking tours are offered at the mill; tours take visitors to the Brewster Gardens, the historic waterfront area, Plymouth Rock and Burial Hill. Before leaving, visit the gift shop and purchase some freshly ground cornmeal to take home with you.
