Founded as a porcelain factory, this warehouse location is one of the oldest in the city. The China House now serves as a pub with ample seating, roaring log fires, and a talkative friendly crowd. There are picnic tables and a main bar, as well as booth-like partitions that help separate the crowd. Live bands play on weekends, and the menu offers staples like homemade soups and cottage pies.

Poor service
On the 30th July my husband and I visited the China House for the first time after several months. We had not been back prior to this because of the attitude of a young man serving behind the bar. On this occasion we were told that the manger had changed the policy and did not allow wine to be sold in a litre carafe, which we had bought many times before, but we could have a 0.75 carafe with a glass of wine - which obviously pushes up the price considerably. When questioned he became verbally abusive and inferred we should take it or leave it - which we did because we walked out in disgust.
The latest occasion we requested a 0.5 carafe of wine and was charged for 2 large glasses, again pushing the prices up. It is £8.20 to have 2 glasses of wine and £9.95 to have 0.75 carafe. In todays drink conscious society this pricing strategy is encouraging you to drink more!!
As the rest of the group does not take the same pricing stance as this mad manager at the China House, we visit the Jack Rabbit on regular occasions and the staff are always pleasant and they will serve 0.5 & 1.0 litre carafes, it is a wonder it is so popular.
I am a finance manager of a large local international company and have suggested visitors eat at the China House in the past. This will not happen in future so the foolish manager will not only lose the revenue from 2 local people but also from recommendations.

It's one of the best pubs in Plymouth I've ever known. I don't know whether it's changed or not since 2001, but it was good, particularly management and kitchen staff serving delicious food.

I am very disgusted with the treatment myself and my colleagues received during an "experience" at the China House. Myself and many other guests traveled from various parts of the UK to dine at a pre - arranged gathering at the China House. Despite giving prior notice of our arrival, the manager could not (would not)seat 13 members of our party.
when we tried to reason with the manager he suggested that many members of our party were inebriated, despite having only arrived, at which point an under-experienced member of staff tried to force-fully remove us from the premises, it was truly shocking, I do not recommend this establishment to anybody.
