WEST OF CITY CENTER. This National Museum of Modern Art is an oasis of culture. The building is a fine example of 1930s Art Deco style. The museum displays work from contemporary Portuguese painters, designers, and sculptors. Exhibits change with frequency. The magnificent sculptured gardens and fountains, covering 44 acres, are worth the trip itself.
