CITY CENTER. Igreja is a 16th century church that was renovated by Niccolo Nasoni in the 18th century. Located adjacent to this church is the Santa Casa da Misercordia, which houses one of the city's most precious paintings, "Fons Vitae" ("Fountain of Life"). This dramatic painting exudes Flemish influence and exhibits King Manuel I with his family kneeling before the bleeding, crucified Christ. Visitors must ask permission to view the painting.
