The narrow streets of this historical town (founded around 360 BC) are filled with colorful, balconied mansions from the 17th century. Many of the restaurants have outside seating for visitors to enjoy views of the Tamego River. A famous hermit-saint named Sao Goncalo has contributed to many of the town's famous myths and legends, thus explaining the name of the popular attraction called Mosteiro de Sao Goncalo. Travelers are also encouraged to visit the Museu Amadeao de Sousa-Cardosa. 37 miles east of Porto. (© 10Best) More Details for Amarante
