8. Ribeira Craft Center

Nothing reflects a region better than its craft items. This mecca for locals and tourists offers handmade fabrics, embroidered dresses, and exquisite hand-thrown pottery. A large selection (with most being hand painted) of "azulejos" (tiles) is for sale. Crowded most of the time, but the prices remain surprisingly reasonable.   (© 10Best)
