Brief History
Founded in 1999 by Brice Bay, 10Best was originally conceived as a way to provide out-of-town visitors with a quick reliable list of the best places to eat, stay, and play.
A former technology salesman, Brice often found himself away from home in unfamiliar towns, hungry and looking for something to do. Not much for room service and not satisfied with national chain restaurants, Brice was more interested in authentic experiences, and his gregarious personality led him to search out places that locals frequented. He also picked up valuable tips from shopkeepers, hotel staff, and always-chatty bartenders.
These encounters fueled his appetite to delve deeper into the cities he visited and to find the people who make them special. Within a short time, his reputation as both a discriminating traveler and an opinionated consumer reached his colleagues, who frequently turned to Brice for answers and suggestions. Armed with an inventory of knowledge, he determined that the best way to share all the information he had acquired would be to premiere a website.
In 2000, then – with a sure sense of what he hoped to achieve – Brice launched 10Best.com, publishing it free for the entire world. Within a year, 10Best signed the first license agreement to provide destination content to web users.
Today, the impulse to give travelers top-notch, experiential recommendations remains our focus, and our high-quality technology and attention to detail make us sought-after providers of web-solution applications and content. We also continue to lead the marketplace with cost-effective solutions and a strong reputation to quickly take a request from concept to implementation.

How We Select 'The Best'
What We Choose
Food and entertainment – the lifeblood of travel – most readily and immediately distinguish a city. Our recommendations tailor these places and activities to your needs. We provide exquisite, high-end choices alongside budget-friendly establishments. We also seek out places that showcase a city’s special flair, rather than including run-of-the-mill franchises.
How We Decide
We approach any city with one goal in mind – to capture its individual character. At the forefront of this process is our team of editors, a well-traveled and well-educated group who are not only experts in their fields but discriminating in their tastes. They conduct extensive, independent research using immediate and secondary sources. Along with this research, they incorporate first-hand experience from mystery travelers, relevant data from city-specific publications, and the opinions of local contacts. From there, evaluations begin, and with well-honed skills and practiced discernment, these editors make their choices. The end result is a compilation of the best restaurants, nightclubs, sights, and activities a city offers. Notably, our decisions are based on merit alone – no business pays to be included in our rankings. We welcome feedback from travelers who use our guide and encourage them to suggest places they enjoy and to critique businesses that we list.
