NEW BRUNSWICK.   With branches in New Brunswick/Piscataway, Camden, and Newark, the State University of New Jersey is an educational powerhouse. It began as a college in 1766 and enveloped other universities through the years to become the centralized institution it is today. Along with its many degree programs, high-quality facilities, and respected faculty, Rutgers is also known as the birthplace of college football (Rutgers beat Princeton 6-4 in 1869.)
