WEST WINDSOR. Once devoted to apparel, this shopping mall has been transformed into a center for home furnishings and lifestyle venues. Prominent tenants include Restoration Hardware, Eddie Bauer Home, Pottery Barn Kids, Williams-Sonoma, Villeroy & Boch, Pottery Barn Design Studio, and shops specializing in rugs and gifts. Also included in the complex is a food court that boasts a number of local restaurants and independent chains. Nearby is a movie theater.

DOWNTOWN. Certainly one of the area's most upscale shopping centers, this complex sits across from the university's main gates and surrounds the town green. Besides retail venues, Palmer Square includes restaurants, a hotel, office space, and private residences. Parking garages in the vicinity make it easy to get around, and you can wander about the town's most picturesque areas with little effort. Shops carry everything from apparel and specialty foods to jewelry, home furnishings, and stationery.

PRINCETON. Diehard shoppers find much to appreciate at this retail village, which offers dozens of upscale outlets. A hotel and restaurants lie in the vicinity as well, poised to take care of folks who've tired themselves either browsing or carrying bags full of bargains. Among the retail establishments you'll find are Geoffrey Beene, Dansk, Bass Shoes, Izod, Dress Barn, Van Heusen, and Carter's Childrenswear.

LAWRENCEVILLE. One of the most visible shopping destinations in Mercer County, Quaker Bridge offers more than a million square feet of retail space. Anchored by Lord & Taylor, JCPenney, Sears, and Macy's, the mall delivers a variety of goods, from clothing and jewelry to shoes and music. Among its 130-some stores are Ann Taylor Loft, Gap, Old Navy, Wet Seal, Kirkland's, Aeropostale, B. Dalton Bookseller, and Radio Shack.
