About Nova Scotia
Nova Scotia calls itself Canada's seacoast, and this eastern maritime province has much to offer lovers of the sea. If you like to laze on the beach, pick an inland, freshwater lake shoreline or the salty, sandy beach of the Atlantic Ocean. Surf the rugged coastline or swim in the warmest saltwater in Atlantic Canada on the Northumberland Strait. Visit the Bay of Fundy, where you can search for amethysts as well as seashells and other treasures when the world's highest tide rolls out. You can also see some incredible wildlife there, from eagles and ospreys to giant, majestic whales. In historic Lunenburg, a destination on the Lighthouse Route and UNESCO heritage site, you'll find a rich history of fishing, shipbuilding, Nova Scotia's early roots – and great seafood. Pretty much anywhere in Nova Scotia is a good place to stop for lobster, scallops, shrimp and other fantastic delicacies of the sea. While enjoying a good meal, there's also no place better to enjoy some good music to go with it. With a history rich in Celtic, African, Mi'kmaq, French, Gaelic and Nova Scotian roots, there is no end to the wonderful music created and treasured here. More than 700 festivals and events annually celebrate every type of music, from Celtic, Acadian and Aboriginal in origin to renowned folk fiddlers playing jigs and reels, to cutting-edge artists in country, hip hop, pop and rock. You don't have to choose which experience you want in Nova Scotia, you can hear and see it all. Just hop in the car and start down the Cabot Trail, Canada's great ocean highway, which winds along the rocky shore of the island of Cape Breton, or follow any of the eleven scenic travelways around the province of Nova Scotia.
