AMERICAN VALLEY.   Tiny American Fork traces its roots back to the 1850s, when Brigham Young encouraged the Caldwell family to begin settling this part of Utah Lake. As others learned of the area's fertile meadows and excellent water supplies, the population grew significantly. By 1853, the community was incorporated as "Lake City." Seven years later, citizens opted to change the name back to American Fork. Today, the city maintains a frontier-like toughness and adds to it a strong desire to be an all-American city. Must-sees include the Greek Revival-style Alpine Stake Tabernacle, the historic city hall, and Moyle Historical Park, which celebrates the city's Old West roots.   (© 10Best)
