BEAUPORT. In addition to being a fun summer destination for swimming, hiking, bicycling and boating, Beauport's municipal campground is one of the Québec area's most popular places for cross-country skiing during the winter. Several skiing trails span a total distance of over 20 km. Other winter activities include ice skating on a beautiful 800 meter rink in the forest and snowshoeing.

SAINTE-ANNE-DE-BEAUPRÉ. This awe-inspiring river gorge and waterfall is one of the gems of the area known as the Beaupré Coast. As the Sainte-Anne-du-Nord River winds its way to the I'Île d'Orleans Channel, it makes deep cuts into the rocky countryside, offering some of the most spectacular vistas you can imagine. To make access to the gorge easier, the park's curators have created a series of dramatic pathways and swinging bridges that take guests right to the edge. From Québec City, the park is approximately a 45-minute drive.

LAC-BEAUPORT. Spread out over 71 hectares (173 acres), Le Relais has 25 ski runs, the longest of which is 2055 meters. All the trails are well lighted, and Le Relais breaks out the snow machines when the weather doesn't fully cooperate, so visitors can ski all day and evening, all winter long. Other perks: seven lifts, an incredible ski and snowboard park, ski lessons and equipment rentals.

LORETTEVILLE. Outdoor enthusiasts will definitely enjoy Kabir Kouba Falls and the surrounding park. Start your visit at the interpretation center, which has impressive collections of fossils, minerals, insects and historical photos that illustrate the history of the area. Follow with a walk along the trail, either guided or on your own, that details the flora and fauna you may encounter here. The waterfall is 28 metres high, offering a splendid photographic subject. On the east side of the falls is the picturesque Jesuit Mill, which dates from 1731.

LAC-BEAUPORT. The Manoir Saint-Castin hotel offers several wintertime activities, including snowshoeing and dogsledding. But perhaps the most popular is ice skating. That's because the rink is a huge 3-km groomed oval on the frozen lake. One or two times around this track and you can enjoy whatever you want for dinner!

This beloved natural area is a great place to seek out during the warmer months, when folks enjoy camping, hiking, horseback riding, kayaking, canoeing, and orienteering, with stellar views out over the Saint Lawrence River. In the winter, 50+ km of the hiking trails are maintained for cross-country skiing, making this one of the largest networks in the area. Other winter activities include snowshoeing, dogsledding and even camping.

LAC-BEAUPORT. Established in 1964, this is one of the more established and popular ski resorts in Québec. Well known for having an extensive system of ski runs, Stoneham keeps 16 of them open for night skiing, so the slopes stay busy into the evening. They also have an amazing snowboarding park, ice skating and snowshoeing, and all necessary equipment rentals. Après-ski at Stoneham is almost as famous – with several restaurants and bars, hot tubs and a pool, there's plenty to keep everyone in the family entertained for hours. The resort continues to attract outdoor enthusiasts during the summer with swimming, fishing, kayaking, rock climbing, hiking and tennis. Transportation to and from Québec City is available daily from mid-November to the end of the ski season (usually in April).

VALCARTIER. Village Vacances Valcartier is a modern campground with full facilities, but that's not its biggest selling point. The complex also boasts Canada's biggest water park, with more than 30 exciting water slides and a huge wave pool for thrill-seekers and lazy-river rides and water playgrounds for little kids and those who prefer a less frenetic pace. Other warm-weather activities include go-karts, climbing walls, a fun trampoline park, miniature golf, rafting and canoeing and hiking trails. In the winter, the water park transforms into a Winter Playground: waterslides convert to high-speed ice slides, hiking paths morph into skating paths, and 17 lifts quickly whisk you up for the next thrilling descent. There's a fleet of snowmaking equipment, so even if the weather doesn't cooperate you can enjoy a wintry outing.
