VIEUX QUEBEC. Visit this "Little Corner of Brittany" and step into a world where the crêpe is king! Waitresses are attired in full Breton dress – tall caps, long dresses and pristine aprons. Try the ham and asparagus stuffed crêpe topped with béchamel sauce. Not to your liking? Well, never fear. They offer more than 80 varieties of crêpes, but considering their "create your own" policy, maybe that number will rise to 81 after your visit. The perfect eatery for either breakfast or brunch.

MONTCALM. Where do the locals go for a quick breakfast? Well, a large percentage of them head to Café Krieghof on a regular basis. Food is a step or three above the usual fast food chains, yet the place still manages to get folks in and out quickly, a boon for harried professionals. But the staff is welcoming and efficient, which attracts a good cross-section of the population – there's an equally good chance that you'll find yourself seated next to a bohemian artist-type as a suited commodities trader. The coffee is reliably hot and fresh, the food is terrific and the ambience is ideal whether you're in for a leisurely morning nosh with friends or a speedy Continental on your way to work. What more could you ask?

If you need to escape the bustle of life, you can come here bright and early and sip café au lait while munching flaky croissants smothered in sweet jam. You can also delve into a wonderfully hearty breakfast of cheese, quiche or pastries.

VIEUX QUEBEC. The action at Cosmos starts early every day, with excellent breakfasts drawing crowds of early morning risers and still-up-from-the-night-before partiers. And it's no wonder – the menu has over 40 options, from pancakes and omelettes to fruit and yogurt. Throughout the day, food is of the "comfort" variety: pizza, burgers and yummy homestyle desserts. The somewhat dorky (yet charming!) sci-fi décor seems more appropriate once the sun goes down – the vibe gets noticeably funkier, attracting a bevy of college students and young professionals who celebrate into the wee hours.

VIEUX QUEBEC. In the shadow of the Château Frontenac, Crêperie le Petit Château serves light, airy crêpes all day long. However, breakfast is a special time, to be sure. Since a crêpe is really a thin pancake, try any of the 58 varieties available for breakfast – stuffed with sausage, ham or bacon. And don't forget the maple syrup! In the warmer months a patio area is open, and the Petit Château often features live music.

VIEUX QUEBEC. Some days, you just need to have breakfast no matter what time it is. L'Omelette is there for you. Located just a stone's throw from the Château Frontenac, this breakfast favorite offers a variety of options, from the popular Espagnole (tomatoes, green peppers and onions) to Provençal (tomatoes, garlic and parsley) omelettes. If you're still trying to recover from the night before, go for the ridiculously filling La Québecois combo – bacon, sausage or ham, tourtière, fried potatoes, toast, two eggs, juice and coffee – you'll never be the same again! A few non-breakfast options are available as well, including seafood, steaks, burgers, sandwiches and even pizza.

Main course crêpes can be prepared with two to five ingredients. Try the ham, cheese and egg crêpe! Have it your way! If you eat at the bar, you can watch the delicate crêpes being prepared.

SAINT-JEAN BAPTISTE. Located inside Québec's beautiful National Assembly building, this Beaux-Arts restaurant boasts a stately décor that includes several gilded chandeliers. The friendly staff will make you feel right at home, and celebrated chef Réal Therrien combines the influences of Québec's different regions to create a delicious menu. Enjoy a full traditional Québec breakfast that includes bacon, eggs, fresh fruit, and plenty of tasty morsels to put maple syrup on. Just don't forget your ID – you can't get in here without it. During National Assembly sessions, the restaurant sometimes opens for dinner as well.

BEAUPORT. The views are a big part of what draws hungry folks to Manoir Montmorency on Sunday mornings, but the food is equally as impressive. Buffet tables are laden with every conceivable breakfast bread and pastry, potatoes, egg dishes, meats, waffles and pancakes, plus an assortment of lunch-type dishes such as soups, pâtes, smoked salmon, cheeses, fresh fruits and vegetables, and several cakes, pies and desserts. If possible, sit on the terrace, where the views of the falls are even more stunning. From May to October, Manoir Montmorency opens up the Grill-Terrasse, a casual spot for grilled meats, game and fish.

SAINT-JEAN BAPTISTE. You'll find this neighborhood favorite outside of the city walls opens and closes early. Rumor has it that the omelets are worth the walk. Try the delicious spinach omelet or, if something sweet is more your speed, the Magie Noire features three chocolate crêpes with bananas and fraises. Tuttie Fruiti looks out for those in a hurry too, by offering "quickies" like a single whole wheat crêpe with coffee to go. Reservations are recommended for Sunday.
