The museum and fort reconstruction sits atop a small hill where Fort William Henry commanded the southern end of Lake George from 1755 to 1757 during the French and Indian War. The fort's short history has been retold, albeit inaccurately, in James Fenimore Cooper's "The Last of the Mohicans." History buffs will appreciate the tours complete with guides dressed in 18th-century military uniforms firing live muskets and cannons.
