DOWNTOWN. As the name indicates, wine is a big draw here, and you can order by the flight and sample up to three choices. What goes better with wine than cheese? Choose any three from a vast list that includes Epoisses, Gorgonzola, Brie de Melun and Chimay. small plates are great for smapling with wine – try the pâté with grain mustard, deviled eggs, Vietnamese marinated cucumbers, and pommes frites. Entrees include seared scallops with marinated tomatoes and stone-ground grits, roasted chicken with crispy okra, and ribeye with olive butter and arugula. Known simply as Vin to the locals.

DOWNTOWN. An ever-changing menu of French haute-cuisine steals the show at this captivating bistro, housed in an old home on Glenwood Avenue. Co-owner and chef Heath Holloman dishes up such rarities as surf and turf of venison and scallops with braised vanilla scented red cabbage. With so many exquisite plates, the menu makes it tough for diners to narrow down their options. However, a $40-50 five-course meal allows diners to enjoy an appetizer, salad, fish, meat and dessert choice.

Just minutes away from downtown Raleigh, Bloomsbury proudly boasts the talents of John Toler, a nationally recognized chef. Chef Toler's inspired French dishes have captivated the hearts and stomachs of locals. The restaurant's comfortable setting and intimate dining area offer a nice respite from the congestion of the city. The menu changes seasonally, and you can expect to be tempted by any number of Nouvelle entrées bearing an American or ethnic lilt. Black angus beef, grilled salmon, or muscovy duck liver may appear among other sumptuous offerings on the ever-changing menu. Bloomsbury's wine list draws a fair amount of praise as well.

HILLSBOROUGH STREET. Located in the neighborhood of NC State, this trendy dining room is a popular spot for a night out. The pre-theater crowd sips sidecars and keylime martinis, while students arrive on foot to woo a date or celebrate a special occasion. While Frazier's ambience and décor help explain the attraction, locals will tell you the real deal comes from the kitchen. The fare, prepared with primarily local ingredients ranges from sweet pea and ricotta ravioli to garlic rubbed pork osso buco. Peaches and summer berries topped with brown sugar almond crumble and crème fraiche ice cream make an exquisite final course.

Authentic Provencal cuisine graces tables at this surprisingly charming dining room, housed in the North Ridge Shopping Center. An extensive selection of appetizers and mains, from escargot with garlic and parsley butter to braised snapper in mushroom consommé give diners plenty of choice. The decadent tournedos Rossini, filet mignon on brioche comes topped with seared foie gras and is served with potatoes au gratin and roasted tomato. The wine list features labels from the top regions in France and over 10 varieties available by the glass.

DOWNTOWN. Located in the historic Dodd-Hinsdale House, Second Empire features a pristine dining room, with a fireplace, graceful arch doorways and crème-colored walls. Select a bottle of wine from the award-winning list, and be prepared to savor elaborate Continental classics, such as the wild boar rack and braised pork cheek duet with root vegetable puree, crispy corn potatoes and caramelized Belgian endive. The casual wood-paneled tavern's a popular spot to sip a martini or enjoy a less formal meal.

Eight different cuts are available, with your choice of six different sauces and toppings.
