DOWNTOWN.   Open since 1945, Finch's is a beloved Raleigh institution. Classic Southern eats at reasonable prices explain the appeal, although serving breakfast all day and adding free WiFi haven't exactly hurt business. A long list of weekday specials might include country fried steak with rice and gravy, fried shrimp, barbecued chicken and coleslaw, pot roast with carrots and potatoes, or fried chicken, with two sides of your choice.
