7. Irregardless Café

Since 1975, Irregardless has been a Raleigh favorite for innovative, healthy cuisine and nightly live music. Lunch fare includes freshly made soups and salads, plus a host of creative sandwiches. Daily specials are always a good choice, with entrees like shrimp with polenta, Philly steak omelette, or Greek chicken and penne casserole. Follow up with a slice of one of their freshly baked desserts – lime chess pie, million dollar fudge ribbon cake, or chocolate amaretto roulade. For dinner, go Irregardless--the cafe, that is. Formerly serving only vegetarian fare, owner and executive chef Arthur Gordon has expanded the menu at Irregardless Cafe to include such delights as poultry and fresh seafood. The menu changes daily, but we loved the grilled tuna with sesame-wasabi dressing. Live music most nights stirs the soul; good food never had better accompaniment. You'll need reservations on weekends. After 9pm on Saturday nights, Irregardless gets serious about the music thing, changing into an old-fashioned supper club. There's a dance floor for stepping out and tapping to the tunes, or you can just sit and enjoy the great atmosphere. (from Southern Living)

Good food, but the atmosphere was less than satisfactory for dinner. Better lunch type ambiance. We would definitely go back for lunch, but for dinner we'll search elsewhere.
