The Buzz -- This well-known local race pulls competitors from around the world and is a qualifying course for the Boston marathon. The event begins at either Mt. Rushmore or the Crazy Horse Memorial, merges at the 10-mile point, and ends at the 1880 Train Station in downtown Hill City. As a result, participants get to experience the beauty of the forested slopes and take on a trail that shifts from 5461 feet to 3281 feet in elevation. A half-marathon and a race for folks under 18 are also available, and a pasta buffet the day before the competition helps prep runners for the rigorous event.
