DOWNTOWN. The hub of artistic endeavor in Rapid City, this arts center was made possible by banker A.E. Dahl and his wife. Unveiled when it opened in 1974 was a dramatic, 180-foot-long canvas – created by Bernard P. Thomas – of America's history from its infancy onwards. This cyclorama is still a major attraction, as are frequent exhibits of local and national artists. A theater on the premises hosts community productions, and arts organizations maintain offices in the facility. Throughout the year, the Dahl Center hosts additional events and classes.
