VIRGINIA CITY. This Victorian mansion (1859) was originally occupied by a young George Hearst, who began to amass the Hearst fortunes with $400 of borrowed money. By 1870, this Reno sightseeing treasure belonged to wealthy John Mackay, who made his fortune owning several mines during the Comstock period. The mansion contains a wealth of 18th and 19th century antiques and also features original chandeliers and priceless silver items, making it one of the top Virginia City attractions. The onsite Mackay Pavilion can be rented for weddings or other special events.
