If Richmond was a living being, the coffee from 4th St Cafe would be its blood. Open 24 hours a day, this is a great cafe/diner to come to after a night on the town or a hard shift at work. Hearty food, real people, and all in the heart of downtown. A true Richmond original

Here's what you need to know: the bar on the main level has a strip of ice inlaid into the bar so you can rest your beer on it and it will stay cold. Choirs of beer-brewing monks in heaven must have thought this place up. With more taps than Savion Glover and more bottles than a winery, beer reigns supreme here. Great downstairs bar has pool and darts (and unique downstair beer selections), and their beer classes are both fun and educational. The only things missing specials like "Steal the glass" and the famous "$1 Burger" night will get you are the jeers of your friends heaped on top of your own regret.

Don't wear expensive clothes, and [be sure to] sit back from the table because the grease is flowing my friends...but in a good way. The perennial hamburger champion of Richmond, this joint never fails to satisfy, and their fries might be even better than their burgers. Dine in, take out, and delivery--the trifecta of happiness.

Calling this place "intimate" is like calling the Sahara "warm". Space may be at a premium but quality isn't. Walking in seems to wrap the patron in the oozing dark wood walls and warmth of service. Great food, great beer selections, and some good live music on selected nights.
