ROCHESTER. Finished in 1927, the Chateau Theatre was long considered one of southeastern Minnesota's most impressive vaudeville theaters. Its French-inspired design, ornate balconies and turrets, and starlit sky dome perfectly capture the style and glitz of the Roaring '20s. In operation through the mid-1980s, the Chateau fell into disrepair until Barnes & Noble took it over in 1994, renovated it, and made it once again a focal point of Rochester's downtown area – except today, instead of live stage performances, the Chateau boasts the latest "NY Times" best sellers, a Starbucks cafe, and one of the town's more impressive reading areas.
