Composed of three mansions with 14 well-appointed rooms, Amber House offers romantic, intimate interiors. Fireplaces grace guest rooms (which are all named for poets, painters, or composers), bathrooms are tiled in Italian marble, and most rooms have jacuzzi tubs. Begin each day with coffee and the morning paper in your room; full breakfast follows in the dining room or on the veranda. Finish your day with a sweet touch – freshly baked chocolate chip cookies.

The sprawling, angular Sterling Hotel, with its dramatic white gables and columns, occupies a restored 1894 Victorian mansion. The charming home has a delightful staff and a first-class restaurant. The sleek interior belies the Victorian exterior, and modern conveniences include large desks in rooms and teleconferencing capabilities in the ballroom, which can accommodate 400. Asian-inspired interiors are relaxing, and all 16 rooms have marble bath and jacuzzi.
