1. Archibald's Restaurant

Archibald's shines as one of the crown jewels in the massive diadem of family eateries crowning the state of Utah's seemingly insatiable appetite for traditional American cuisine. It easily represents West Jordan's finest offering in this category, despite many contestants. In truth, it borders more nearly on a fine dining experience, but the prices are much more reasonable. Besides the efficient and friendly service, a setting of singular charm with an unusual and engaging infusion of history and culture, and reasonable prices, each menu item elicits a gustatory celebration which invites frequent repetition. Choosing what might be a house specialty presents a wonderful challenge. The prime rib is fork-tender and defines succulence. Opt for the “del Monico” topping and vegetables and cheese seem to take on a whole new purpose in life. The various chicken breast offerings always please the palate. The menu claims the traditional roast turkey dinner takes pride of place on the menu—and while it never fails to please, it has plenty of competition. The desserts likewise present a conundrum. Each is a masterpiece, the wife and I often debate the merits of the caramel-apple cobbler a la mode versus the New York cheesecake. Compromise requires one of each. Despite the truly fine fare, perhaps the best thing is the setting of the restaurant in Gardner Village. Numerous restored pioneer-era homes have been converted into shops offering a bewildering array of items designed to please the ladies. I delight in my wife’s reactions every time we visit. A running stream and pond of fish (with footbridge) offer an excellent opportunity to walk off a magnificent meal. Gardiner village is frequently festooned with seasonal attraction. Halloween and Christmas are especially magical times to visit.
