Founded around 700 AD, this convent contains numerous examples of fine Christian art. Particularly noteworthy is the statue of John the Baptist, the prophet whose ministry set the stage for that of the Messiah, Jesus of Nazareth, in the first century AD. There's also a series of exceptional paintings depicting the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ.
