About San Antonio Events
Thanks to the various ethnic groups that settled San Antonio, the city has inherited a wealth of cultural celebrations. Started in 1891, the Battle of Flowers Parade commemorates the fight for Texan independence and served as the inspiration for Fiesta San Antonio, a huge, citywide celebration of arts and culture that features numerous carnivals, dances, shows and exhibits. In March, Remember the Alamo Weekend brings the famous battle to life with a reenactment at Alamo Plaza. Also unique to San Antonio, the Tejano Conjunto Festival showcases a form of regional music influenced by German dance music. Mexican festivals like Cinco de Mayo and El Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) are widely celebrated, too. As for good old All-American fun, the Valero Alamo Bowl, one of the most popular college football games across the country, is held at the Alamodome each December. -- Elizabeth Baxley, 10Best Editor
