RUNNING SPRINGS.   This popular winter retreat is tucked away in the heart of the San Bernardino National Forest. During winter months, the resorts offer cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, both of which gain in popularity every year. During warmer months, the challenging trail systems are turned over to mountain bike racing and hikers.
