The short and sweet of it is, San Diego has every sort of nightlife you could want. Trendy dance clubs and lively bars are rife in the Gaslamp Quarter – Envy and Eden at the Ivy hotel, J6 at the Hotel Solamar, and Stingaree are great examples. If you're looking for neighborhood spots (with far fewer tourists) you won't have to go far. Hillcrest is the hub of the LGBT community, where you'll find lots of laid-back, gay-friendly bars, and neighborhood pubs. Downtown has a number of classy lounges and bars, including the San Diego Wine and Culinary Center's wine bar and Top of the Hyatt. And San Diego does like its music, turning out in droves to hear bands at places like Belly Up, Croce's, House of Blues, and Humphrey's Back Stage. -- Kim Goodin, 10Best Editor
