Californian cuisine is the default here – it's everywhere, and it's fantastic, especially at places like Blanca, Nine-Ten, George's at the Cove, and A.R. Valentien. Seafood is super fresh and on just about every menu, although Top of the Market, Oceanaire, and Osetra are standouts. Mexican joints are a dime a dozen, and some of the small taquerias and cantinas serve up awesome food at bargain prices. For more upscale and authentic Mexican, try Candelas, El Agave Tequileria, or Ortega's. More exotic flavors are easy to locate, too. Try Rama for Thai, Milles Fleurs or Café Chloe for authentic French, or one of Deborah Scott's fusion creations at Kemo Sabe or Indigo grill. Of course, sometimes only a steak will do. Although there are the usual steakhouse chains all over town, and several of the city's finer restaurants serve excellent steaks, the best are at Donovan's. -- Kim Goodin, 10Best Editor
