Valentien was an artist known for his watercolors of native California plants – you can see some of his works at this striking Lodge at Torrey Pines restaurant, which happens to specialize in cooking with regional produce. While you gaze out at the lush, green golf course and the Pacific beyond, savor chestnut and porcini soup with Fuji apples, wild striped bass with Meyer lemon risotto, or roasted duck and leg confit with leeks and kabocha squash.
