MISSION VALLEY.   A favorite from the owner of Laurel and Chive, Kensington Grill is a comfortably upscale neighborhood spot that cooks up a great array of Californian-New American dishes. Things to try: Calamari with a Thai-inspired sauce, grilled swordfish with black bean basmati rice and papaya-habanero drizzle, ribeye with ratatouille and sweet potato fries, mac and cheese with truffle oil, or wild game meatloaf.
