8. Spanish Village Art Center

HILLCREST / BALBOA PARK.   More than 35 artists' galleries are housed in this village-like compound, where you can watch the creation of one-of-a-kind arts and crafts, including paintings, ceramics, jewelry, hand-thrown pottery, and wood sculpture. Annual events include a summer open house and a fall art festival; numerous other special shows are featured throughout the year. My husband and I go to Spanish Village at least once a year. Really a fun place to see art created and to buy really unique pieces at very reasonable prices. Great place for unique Christmas gifts. Fun date place even just to hold hands and look in the shop/galleries. Interesting artisits to talk with and a fun afternoon thing to do!
