This restaurant is easy to miss, but make sure you don't! Descend the stairs in Centro into this small, family-run establishment. Recently refurbished with blue-flecked walls, high ceilings, and decorative chair rails, the room feels upscale but is actually quite relaxed. The menu (in several languages) offers appetizers such as shrimp cocktail and asparagus. The entrées include grilled or breaded sole or a filet steak. Finish up with an excellent crème caramel with peaches. Anastasio Berri is a hidden gem.

The Nicolasa staff helps to make any visit here a pleasant experience, and the dining area itself is modern and cozy. Of course, the terrific food doesn't hurt their reputation either. OYARZUN-OIARTZUN. This restaurant, which is housed in what is perhaps the oldest house in the valley, is located about five miles from San Sebastián. From several tables in the dining area, you have views of beautiful rolling hills. Chef Abelaitz's carefully chosen "Menú de Degustación" comes highly recommended, and it is hard to go wrong with such entrées as lobster cooked in cinnamon or risotto-topped roast pigeon. An à la carte menu is available. Reservations are recommended.
