4. Semana Nautica

The Buzz -- If it has to do with water and/or athletics, you'll probably find it at this annual festival. What began in 1933 as a friendly wager between townspeople and military folks has evolved into a large competition boasting more than forty events. Venues in Santa Barbara, Goleta, and Carpinteria spread the love around, and there's a contest for every age and skill level. Among the possibilities are water polo, swimming, kayaking, volleyball, softball, and the like. There's no charge to watch the events.
