SANTA BARBARA.   Sometimes you get a hankering for good, simple food – no tricks, no gimmicks. Derf's ably accommodates with great homemade dishes, a terrific outdoor patio, and prices that don't strain the wallet. For a generation now, the cafe has supplied locals with burgers, salads, and a variety of sandwiches (meat-friendly and vegetarian) with fries. Morning fare is excellent as well, whether you want something as basic as fresh fruit or as elaborate as eggs benedict. Breakfast sandwiches, biscuits and gravy, and more can also be had. And for future reference: there's a full bar and homemade brownies – although you probably wouldn't want them at the same time.   (© 10Best)

Depends on the mealtime.. Lunch-yes, Dinner-No Lunch outdoors on the patio, ordering a teriyaki or a mushroom burger or some such sandwich thing is fine. Delicious, even! Cheery and fun. But if you eat dinner there in the evening, indoors, it's deserted, no tablecloths, a huge sports tv in every room (and you can't decide what to watch), and decidedly dreary and depressing. Breakfast is probably okay, too. Just try to eat outside.
